HEIC to JPG — Common Questions
Why can't I open a HEIC file on Windows?
Windows does not support HEIC by default. To open HEIC on Windows 10/11, install the HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store (paid), or simply use this free converter to turn your HEIC files into universally compatible JPG.
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on my iPhone?
Open this website in Safari on your iPhone → tap Choose HEIC Files → select photos from your Camera Roll → tap Convert → tap Download. The JPG saves to your Files app. You can also go to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible to shoot JPG directly.
Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce the photo quality?
Our converter uses a 92% JPG quality setting — the result is visually identical to the original. HEIC files are already compressed, so converting to high-quality JPG produces no noticeable difference in sharpness or color.
Can I batch convert multiple HEIC files?
Yes. Select as many HEIC files as you want (or drag and drop a folder of photos), click Convert, and then use the Download All button to save all JPGs at once. There is no limit on the number of files.
What is the difference between HEIC and HEIF?
HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) is the open standard. HEIC is Apple's implementation using the HEVC codec. They are essentially the same thing — this converter handles both .heic and .heif files.
How do I stop my iPhone from saving photos as HEIC?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and tap Most Compatible. Your iPhone will shoot JPG instead of HEIC going forward. The trade-off is slightly larger file sizes. Keeping HEIC for storage and converting when needed (using this tool) is often the best of both worlds.
Does this work on Android?
Yes. If you have HEIC files on your Android (e.g., transferred from an iPhone), open this site in Chrome for Android, upload the files, and convert. No app installation needed.
